How it works

Four steps to a more sustainable move.

Everything in one place, timed to your move-out week — a reminder email when it counts, the closest bin, and a pickup option for the heavy stuff.

📅
STEP 01

Set your move-out date

We use it to time everything — reminders, bin schedules, your closest pickup.

📍
STEP 02

See what's near you

Donation bins, thrift shops, and food pantries — pinned across Ann Arbor.

📦
STEP 03

Drop or donate

Most items take one trip. Heavy furniture? Schedule a building pickup instead.

🌱
STEP 04

Count what you saved

We log tonnage weekly and share it back with every coalition partner.

For property managers & RAs

Host a donation bin in your building.

We supply the bin, the signage, the volunteer schedule, and the pickup. You tell us where to put it — that's it.

  • Free bin + signage
  • Twice-weekly pickup
  • Reporting for your ESG
  • 48-hour approval
Questions we hear

Move-out, answered.

Don't see yours? Email us — we reply within a day.

I'm moving out — what's the fastest thing I can do right now? +
Drop your move-out date in the reminder form above. You'll get one email with the bin closest to you, the pickup schedule, and a 12-minute packing list — timed to the week you start packing.
What can I actually put in a donation bin? +
Clothing, bedding, kitchen items, small electronics, books, and unopened pantry food. Furniture and large appliances need a building pickup — we'll schedule one with you by reply.
My building doesn't have a bin. Can I still help? +
Yes. The map has public pins — thrift shops and food pantries — within 2 miles of most student housing. And ask your building manager to host a bin: we can have one installed in 48 hours.
Who picks up the donations? +
A rotating crew of volunteers from the coalition, coordinated through the Student Sustainability Coalition. Food Gatherers runs the pantry route; PTO and Kiwanis handle furniture and clothing.
How is the trash data calculated? +
The monthly percentages are a 5-year blend of the City of Ann Arbor's public tonnage data, 2018–2024 (excluding 2020–2021 for pandemic anomalies). Source: City of Ann Arbor Data Catalogue.
How do I volunteer? +
Sign up for one 4-hour shift between April 22 and May 10. We handle training on-site. Free food, a t-shirt, and the best possible way to see what students actually leave behind.
